We are pleased to inform you that CEO Hidenari Tanaka of Menicon Co., Ltd. has been selected to receive the Medal with Blue Ribbon in spring 2018, in recognition of his over 13 years of dedicated service toward achieving sound development of the contact lens industry and promotion of the industry in general in his capacity as the Chairman of the Japan Contact Lens Association since April 2004, thereby contributing to advancement of the welfare of the Japanese people. The award ceremony is scheduled for May 15, 2018. The Medal with Blue Ribbon is one of the six Medals of Honor conferred biannually in the spring and fall by the Emperor of Japan to individuals who have made prominent efforts to promote public welfare in the interests of the community.
NAGOYA, Japan – February 6, 2017 – Mr. Paul Rose, Dip Opt, B Sc., FCCLSNZ, inventor of the Rose K brand of contact lenses for irregular cornea, is to become a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM), it was announced in early January. Rose’s appointment is in recognition of his contributions to the fields of ophthalmology and optometry. The award is one of the highest honors bestowed on individuals in New Zealand distinguished for their services and contributions.

Birmingham, England, 9 June 2014 – Paul Rose, inventor of the Rose K family of lens designs for irregular cornea, has been named at the first-ever recipient of the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) Industry Award. Launched in 2013 to honor and recognize the entrepreneurial work being carried out by individuals working in contact lens science, research and technology, the 2014 BCLA Industry Award was bestowed on Dr. Rose during the BCLA’s annual Gala Dinner on June 7.

NAGOYA, Japan – Menicon Co, Ltd. announced today that Scott Orphanos has joined the company taking up the position of Vice President, Sales and Marketing at Menicon America, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary in North America. He will be immediately responsible for launching Menicon's Miru 1day soft contact lens, presented in a revolutionary flat pack.
Mr. Orphanos brings nearly 20 years experience in the opthalmic industry to his new role. Most recently, as a consultant, he helped establish a presence for Safilens' contact lens business in the U.S. Before forming his consulting business, he served as Executive Director of Business Development at Bioconcept, a boutique ophtalmic product development company based in New England. He held several positions of increasing responsibility at Biocompatibles Eyecare, launching Proclear Compatibles in the U.S. and eventually was named Business Team Leader for the Eastern U.S. He began his career in the industry at Bausch & Lomb in the early 1990s.
